The first good thing about Vigan Hotel is its proximity to most sights
of interest in Vigan. The location is
excellent. Partas bus stop exactly at
the heritage village, just beside the city hall, adjacent to Palaza Salcedo and
you don’t need to take a tricycle, the
hotel is just about 7 minutes walking distance, at the back of Vigan
Cathedral. Secondly, Vigan Hotel has
economy rooms for tourists looking for budget-friendly accommodations of
somewhere to rest their heads after a walk around Calle Crisologo which, again,
is a minute walk from the hotel. It’s a
minute walk to Plaza Salcedo, PlazaBurgos, and all the museums in Vigan.
The hotel is one of those 18th century old Spanish era
wooden house so you get to experience sleeping in one like most houses along
Calle Crisologo or the Mestizo District, at fraction of the cost.
They have various type of rooms and suites, but because I’m on a
budget, I stayed at their economy room, non-aircon, shared bath, very simple,
surprisingly it has a TV with cable channels and an equally ancient electric
fan. The room may have been one of the
maid’s quarter during the time when it was still a private mansion because
somehow I’m getting this prison cell feel to it, owing to its small square window
right at the opposite end of the door. Old
desk and chair, wooden bed with thin foam, white linen and blanket that have
seen its days, old worn towel provided, a sink on one corner of the room, a
Chinese hardware calendar and a couple of mosquitoes buzzing around so don’t
forget to bring one of those electric mosquito repeller or buy one, it’s
available at 2 Brothers at the back of the city hall.
Don’t get me wrong though, it isn’t that bad at all. For the price? It’s value-for-money considering the high
cost of rooms in Vigan, it’s hard to find rooms around that area that could
compete with that rates.
The staff – I saw 2 at the reception – aren’t really friendly, but not
rude at all. Helpful would be
appropriate. If you’ll ask them for information, they’ll give it to you the best they could.
Perfect location, a private room with TV and wifi connectivity? I would definitely recommend the economy
rooms to budget travelers. I can’t vouch
for the regular rooms and suites though.

breakfast.
