I got used to the cold climate of Mountain Province after a month of stay in Sagada. Now, I’m missing it. I left Sagada this morning, jumped on the GL Lizardo bus to Baguio and connected to a van on my way to Manaoag, Pangasinan. I found out it’s the town fiesta.
After a grueling 8 hours trip, I arrived at the center of the town in front of the church where there really is some merrymaking. I’ll be writing about that tomorrow. For now, I walked around and found a bonsai exhibition just at the side of the municipal hall. Several pots of those beautiful miniature trees. Bonsai is a Japanese art form using miniature trees grown in containers. The exhibition is actually a competition in connection with the town fiesta.
The winning entry was a bonsai’d tamarind tree of about 1.5 feet in height. There are a lot of nice entries though, but there must be a criteria in the selection of the winning piece.
I heard yesterday, there were some showbiz celebs who graced the occasion, some personalities from a TV network.
Anyhoo, I think I’ll be staying for a night or two in Manaoag, one, there is a musical concert tomorrow night, some alternative band, and two, to visit the Our Lady of Manaoag Church, I’m not a devotee, just want to take some photos, and check some interesting stuff around town.
Getting
to Manaoag from Sagada, one has to take the GL Lizardo bus from their
parking lot beside the St. Theodore Hospital in Sagada town center, all the way
to Baguio in 6 hours (P220 fare). From
Baguio, it’s faster to take the minivans (P85 fare) to Manaoag at the KMS bus
station beside Rizal Park in Burnham Park. Travel time is 1 hour and 45
minutes. Big buses may take more than
2.5 hours.
